Each zone represents a distinct stage of the journey, illustrating how rapidly the world is changing: starting with "routine" clashes with the law, moving to the first signs of anomalies (strange lights, equipment malfunctions, public panic), and culminating in direct confrontations with alien forces. Scavenging for scrap metal and upgrading gear serve not merely to boost your strength, but to bring you up to the level required to face this new threat. Progression feels like preparation for a final, decisive push.
